Wild dogs are found almost all over the world. Many species of wild dog are in danger of dying out because they are being hunted, or because the places where they live are being taken over by people. Domestic dogs live almost everywhere that humans live.
The smallest wild dog is the fennec fox. It is as small as a pet cat and it lives in the desert lands of north africa where it hunts lizards and bugs. The fennec fox has very large ears in relation to its body size, which allow it to pick up very quiet sounds, even over long distances.
The largest wild dog is the grey wolf. This magnificent creature can measure up to 1.5 metres in length, from its nose to its rump, and can weigh up to 60 kgs. Some domestic dogs are almost as huge. Great Danes are one of the tallest and they can easily measure more than 2 metres in length.
